§ 3.6. Absence or disability of mayor.

  • The town council may elect, by a majority vote of the members present, from its members a person to serve as vice mayor during the absence or inability of the mayor to act. The person so elected shall possess the powers and discharge the duties of the mayor during such absence or disability of the mayor. The election shall occur at the first regular meeting of the council in the fiscal year immediately following a local general election or at a special meeting of the town council called for the purpose of conducting such election. Whenever it is necessary to elect a vice mayor pursuant to this section, in the absence of the mayor, the town clerk or acting town clerk shall call the meeting of the town council to order and shall preside until a vice mayor is elected. This shall not be construed to vest in the town clerk any of the powers and duties of the mayor, except as expressly stated in this section.
